12x Times Boost for HD Video Encoding using video card

. Wednesday, April 16, 2008

Yesterday, April 15, Nvidia held a press conference in Japan during which new, nothing less of Revolutionary technology was demoed.
A small and yet unknown company - Elemental Technologies has created a video encoding engine which can harness the power of your video card.
Internal test has shown speed boost of twelve times faster than using one of faster regular CPU's.
NVIDIA has demonstrated the possibilities of RapiHD engine, which uses NVIDIA video chip for video processing.

For testing a two hours HD MPEG-2 video file with 1280x720 (720p) resolution was converted to MPEG-4 with 320x240 resolution (iPod standard resolution). The Core 2 Duo 1.66GHz CPU took 7 hours and 35 minutes; Core 2 Extreme Quad Core 3.0 GHz needed 4 hours and 53 minutes. Using RapiHD Mobile Geforce 8800M needed only 56 minutes and regular GeForce 8800 GTS 512mb with 128 stream processors execute this task in 23 minutes only.
